For
I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and
after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom
I shall see for myself…” –Job
19:25-27. For a full
appreciation of this text, let me summarize the entire Book of Job. Job had a
wife and kids, a nice house and property, servants and livestock. Satan
“convinces” God to let him take all of this away from Job…well, all but
the wife—good choice! Anyway,
after Job lost everything, he had nothing to look forward to. His house had been
destroyed, his children’s lives were snuffed out, his property, and crops and
livestock were all gone. So Job sat in dust, scraping his painful boils with a
potsherd (whatever that is). Even
worse, Job had to listen to his friends tell him that he must have done
something horrible to bring on all this disaster, and his wife gave him infernal
advice which he ignored: “Curse God and die.” They were not very helpful. So, Job
had nothing! Or did he? He had faith in the Lord. Through all his trials he
clung to the Lord with everything he had—the sure words and promises of God.
And that was more than enough. Job confessed and believed that His Redeemer
lived; he looked forward in faith to the fulfilling of God’s promise to send
the Messiah first promised in Genesis 3:15, no matter what his earthly
circumstances. We
have much in common with Job. We have daily troubles because we are sinful human
beings. We have nothing to give Jesus but our sins. And, our Redeemer, Christ
Jesus, died to pay for our sins and lives! He rose from the dead after defeating
Satan. Best of all, the Holy Spirit delivers saving faith in Jesus to us in His
means of grace and strengthen us to sing Job’s hymn: I know that my
Redeemer lives; what comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, He lives who
once was dead; He lives, my ever-living head. KINDERGARTEN

GRADE (3rd/4th Grade Math) NEWS This has been a short, fast week and not very much to
comment on. I have started the
third in long division. They are
very much in the learning stage but with practice things will improve. The fourth graders have been working with angles – of which
they all have at some time – and learning to use the protractor.
As with the third grade practice will help. Fifth and Sixth grades will be getting back to normal
next week. We will resume with Rome
in history and Earth Science on how weather affects the earth surface.
At present we are looking at rivers and I have a few activities on rivers
planned for next week. Seventh and Eighth grades have completed the section on
the Civil War and will be getting into modern times. We will be starting out with the Cold War.
I let them select the last unit to study and sound was chosen.
So sound it is, starting Monday.

MATH/COMPUTERS 5th
Grade Math –We’ve introduced
fractions and will continue to work with equivalent fractions. 6th
Grade Math –Fractions and mixed
numbers are still on the menu until we’re experts at adding and subtracting
them. Pre-Algebra
– We’ll add and subtract fractions
with common denominators, using algebraic forms, too. Algebra
– Direct and inverse variation (i.e.,
y=kx) has been our new challenge this week and will continue to be next week.
Then we’ll review for a test before taking off for Chicago! 7th
and 8th Grade Keyboarding
– Our midterm “grades” reflect the words-per-minute rate your students
showed on their first timed test. This will
indicate the baseline (i.e., their starting rate when typing). As we learn more
letters and strokes, that rate may remain level, but should increase with
practice. We’ll be ready for our second timed test this next week as we learn
a couple more letters and type more and more real words. 7th
and 8th Graders – Please
turn in ALL of your candy money and pizza money from our fund-raisers if you
haven’t already. Also, you are welcome to sell the extra candy to credit your
account. Otherwise, we will sell the extras at the TSP track meet. Please remember that April is our month to collect
packages to send to the troops in Iraq. 8th
Graders – Today
you got our necessary forms to fill out for our trip to Chicago. Please have
them back and the balance on your account by this coming Thursday, May 1 so
everything is ready to go the following Monday when
we leave!!!!
THANKS! This is my first
opportunity to extend my many thanks to all the students and parents who gave so
graciously during Teacher Appreciation Week. I especially loved the chocolate,
the flowers which still decorate my home, the chocolate, the tote and towel (my
daughters covet), the chocolate, the wonderful breakfast (complete with
chocolate) and lunch with my wonderful faculty. -Pax

It takes many people to make this a success. This is a day that the children look forward to.
